Who we are:
We began life as CHIK (Community Health in Keyham) in 1997 to support people in the local community. We have grown and developed according to our members needs and are now a User Led Organisation, providing holistic support to people experiencing mental health issues across the City of Plymouth. Since 2016 we have been known as CHIL Plymouth.
What we do:
We offer individually tailored support through one to one and group work. We work with the whole person in a flexible and responsive way to make positive changes in their lives in terms of social, mental, emotional and economic wellbeing. We work with people for as long as they need our support.
We aim to work in a flexible and responsive way with people experiencing mental health issues across the City of Plymouth to make positive changes in their lives. We are committed to working with people from a basis of respect, recognising that people are the experts in their own lives, and will work to empower them in their recovery process.
One to One work:
One to one work is individually tailored to best support and empower each member through face to face and/or telephone sessions. Members can access support with anything they define as an obstacle to their wellbeing including practical and emotional help and support with financial, emotional, mental and social issues.
We have a range of facilitated groups available to our members including informal drop in sessions, a user led craft group, a gardening group and a support group. The groups aim to reduce isolation, encourage positive community networks and peer support.
Many of our members go on to volunteer at CHIL and we support them to build on their skills and experiences. Volunteering has included, Administration, being a Trustee, Cleaning and maintaining the building and innovative User Led projects such as 'Art in the Park'
